Our Mission Statement


The Pierce County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is an organization supporting today's rapidly growing and highly diversified Hispanic Business Community.  With its network of businesses, professional associations, corporations and individuals, fosters a positive business environment, encourages job development and promotes business growth.

Economic development, prosperity, and community leadership are the primary goals of the chamber.  We are commited to supporting programs that allow businesses to grow and thrive, encouraging government to fulfill its stewardship responsibilites, and promoting partnerships with other organizations.

Our Speaker for May 21st Luncheon was
Gladys Romero with the U.S. Census Bureau

 


Romero spoke about the implications of undercounting the Latino population regarding funding for cities and schools, roads, childcare, social service programs, in the 2010 Census, thus effectively meeting the needs of our Latino constituents and how proper counts may affect Legislative Districts.

The count is set for April 15th, 2010, Legal Status does not Matter you should be counted in the count. People not related to you but live in your home should also be included in the Count.

  Hello Friends,           

            Thank you for attending our July 16th , 2009 Luncheon and for your dedicated support to the Pierce County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. 

 

            For those of you not able to attend we understand and hope to see you on September 17th, 2009 at our next Luncheon. As Summer gives us all an opportunity to rest, relax, travel and spend some time with our families we will not host a Luncheon for the Month of August. We are looking forward to meeting and visiting with you In September. Bring your Business cards, bring a friend, all are welcomed to our Luncheon.

Anders Ibsen:

Anders Ibsen works for the Safe Streets Campaign as a community mobilization specialist, helping neighbors organize their communities to make them safer places to live, work and raise their families.  Anders is an active member of the community, serving as an elected representative on the Pierce County Conservation District, board member for the Pierce County Human Services Citizen’s Advisory Board, and Washington State Director for the Young Elected Officials Network.

 Nancy Shattuck:Nancy Shattuck serves as the Chair to the Pierce County Commission Against Domestic Violence and is employed by the Cities of Sumner and Puyallup as their Domestic Violence Victim’s Advocate within their Prosecutor’s Office.  Nancy was the first bilingual legal advocate to Eastern Pierce County through a collaboration with the YWCA and Centro Latino.  Prior to that she served as a volunteer  and volunteer coordinator at Peace Corps, Ecuador. Nancy continues to be active in the Hispanic community in Eastern Pierce County working with such organizations as Tacoma Community House, Catherine’s Place, East Pierce County Domestic Violence Task Force and St. Francis House.

Our Speaker for the July 16th 2009 Luncheon MICHAEL E.SOTELO

Michael Sotelo is the founder and President of Approach Management Services (AMS), a full service, risk management consulting firm specializing in worker’s compensation for all types of industries.  He is a nationally-recognized safety professional and a highly visible force in the Northwest’s construction community with over 30.In addition to his career in the construction and worker’s compensation fields, Mr. Sotelo works tirelessly with and for the Latino Community and, approximately five years ago, he began a new journey as President of the Washington State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is now the King County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Sotelo’s commitment to the continued success of the Latino business and entrepreneurship, he assembled a team of local business leaders to found Plaza Bank; a community bank which focus is to serve local families and businesses within the Latino community and the public in general.

Congressman Dave Reichaert,The Representative for the Eighth Congressional District  of  Washington State  met withMembers of the Pierce CountyHispanic Chamber of Commercein an open forum to discussways  to help Hispanic  Small Business Owners.   Aug. 19th 2009         
Aug. 19th ,  Seattle, WA    A  Latino Business Owners Roundtable with U. S. Senator Patti Murray  was hosted by the Office of Washington CASH,  How today’s Economy is Effecting Local Small Business Hispanic Owners was the topic of discussion.  Having the opportunity to attende both functions I recognized that Hispanic Businesses are important to the small entrepreneur, community leaders and organizations that are creating paths for information, specialized programs, assisting with small Loans, in a time of an economic crisis.  Thank you  Dave Reichaert and Patty Murray,  Richard Molina, PCHCC What do these folks have in common?    Ideas and a dedication to bring the Hispanic Community together In Business, Education and Social Services

On June 7th at Mt Tahoma High School the Tenth Annual Recognition Ceremony was held to honor some Latino Students for their special achievements, five were High School Graduates of 2009 and continuing on to a higher education.

The event was attended by School Superintendent A. Jarvis and sponsored by the Latino Education Alliance. Richard Molina an Executive Board Member of the PCHHC spoke on “The benefits of Higher Education” to Students, Parents and Teachers.
